The True-Life Story of How Andre the Giant Taught Randy Broughten How to Rebuild a Carburetor

Most are aware that Randy spent a summer in his youth in Molien, France, working at a factory that manufactured engines for hay balers. What is less known is that one of his co-workers at the factory was a strapping youth by the name of André René Roussimoff, who would later go on to wrestle in the WWF under the name of Andre the Giant (outside of wrestling, Roussimoff is best known for appearing as Fezzik, the giant in the 1987 Rob Reiner film, The Princess Bride).

Randy and Roussimoff became fast friends, bonding over their love of monster movies and peanut brittle. On their days off, they often drove into the French countryside, sometimes in the company of the Irish poet Samuel Beckett. On one of these occasions (though not one where Beckett was present), Randy's impeccably rebuilt 1921 Citroën B Torpedo touring sedan broke down on a country lane far from the nearest village. It’s well known that Randy is an absolute crackerjack regarding bodywork, but engines are not his bailiwick. Luckily, Roussimoff knew his way around a 0.8 litre straight-4 petrol. He quickly diagnosed the problem as a kaput carburetor and had Randy's trusty Citroën back on the road in two shakes of a lamb's tail using only pebbles, french clay, and rusted barbed wire.

Randy absorbed every detail of that complicated repair into his enormous brain, where he can reference it as necessary. Countless were the times Randy repaired the Gear Daddies' broken-down Ford Econoline using only found materials within his reach.

The above story took place a long while back. Some (or possibly all) of the details may be misremembered. Still, thanks to Wikipedia, your knowledge of Andre the Giant has likely increased.
